Understanding the Process of Hot Foil Printing

The hot foil printing is the process of using heat and pressure to apply metallic holograms to flat surfaces such as carton board, plastics, corrugated board, light papers, and laminated board. It involves the utilization of punches and dies for generating three-dimensional outputs.

It is one of the major variations of engraving services in Sydney. It is a dry inking process of lithography where predried ink is transferred to a particular surface at a high level of temperature. Heating is an essential part of this process as it allows the image transfer. The stamping die is used to transfer the engraved image to marking golden shiny paper. That paper is responsible for causing the ink placed on a particular surface where the image is going to be transferred.

The termed process includes:
  • Simple flat stamping
  • Deep embossing or embossing combined with stamping
  • Holographic and hologram application
  • Stamping encompassing micro and structural embossing

It includes the three kinds of operating principals
  • Flat-Flat technique: In this technique, the dies are either attached to flat honeycomb chase enables the variable positioning or fixed positioning in a flat metal plate.
  • Round-Flat technique: Here the flat counter plate is replaced with a rotating cylinder. The die chase moves horizontally to deliver the narrow linear zone of pressure.
  • Round-Round technique: It is based on the rotary principals where the dies are mounted on a cylinder which rotates in coordination with a counter cylinder.

This stamping is popular as compare to other kinds of stamping as it is flexible and applied in a wide range of materials. Due to its dry method, there is no complication about the demanding procedure. Even the machine can be handled manually without any hassles.
